It is known that India is the only country to show diversity in terms of all aspects ; religion, geography, language, food habits, dressing styles, festivals and so on.  Even though every cultural pattern and physical feature of India is unique and remarkable in its own way, the diversity found in terms of festivals in India is what I find the most fascinating.

Every festival that is celebrated in India has a deeper meaning behind it , which I find very beguiling. People celebrate each and every festival with great pomp and show. There is a lot of enthusiasm shown by people during this time and thus the entire atmosphere is filled with joy.

People hold great regard to the three national festivals celebrated in India- Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanthi. Irrespective of the religion, caste and community, people all over the country celebrate this with a lot of pride depicting unity and progress amongst everyone. The entire atmosphere is filled with the feeling of patriotism during these festivals.

The other festivals celebrated are based on the religion and culture.
Our culture holds high regard for religious practices and most of the people in the country are God fearing. Thousands of festivals are thus celebrated to follow various customs and traditions.
Some of the main Indian festivals include Diwali, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Pongal and Bhai Duj. People celebrate these joyous occasion  with their near and dear ones and exchange gifts. Some common traditions followed during any festival are decorating the house and surroundings with flowers and lights, relishing on sweets and wearing new clothes.

Nowadays, some people celebrate those festivals which are not generally celebrated in their religion or culture ,like a Hindu celebrating Christmas or a Christian celebrating Diwali. All this paves way for the development of a United India. Thus, festivals hold high importance for Indians. Whether they live in India or abroad, Indians give special importance to their festivals and celebrate them with joy and happiness.
