Experiencing Rajasthan in Chennai !

CHOKI DHANI
A masterpiece of art and design spread over 15 acres of land, Choki Dhani is undoubtedly the best place I have been to within Chennai. Located on the Poonamallee High Road close to Queens Land, it is a one-stop destination for fun, food and masti. I visited this place 6 years ago with my family and friends and the memories from that day have been truly cherishable.

Choki Dhani village brings to life, a colourful Rajasthani heritage that leaves you awestruck with all the attractions and elements of ethnic culture and tradition. Its purpose is to take you on a journey through Rajasthani culture; elaborate moustaches, bulky red turbans and silver anklets are very much the name of the game here. Starting from the welcome tilak, the mandir, village bazaar, folk dance, animal rides, mehendi, open lawns to relax and bond with each other, every moment in this wonderful village theme concept was relishable.

As we were walking towards the entrance, we were welcomed by a man dressed up in a stilt costume followed by a young women applying tilak on our foreheads as a symbol of respect and affection. We were then taken on a short boat ride which was followed by a convivial camel ride. I still remember how my friends and I were scared to get onto the camel but refused to get down after the ride was complete as it was a very unique and enjoyable experience.

Meanwhile, the elders were having fun attempting the crazy dance moves performed by a women wearing a black, heavily embroidered Rajasthani skirt and the boys were trying to show off their strength by hitting a huge gong with a heavy mallet. We all then assembled to witness the Rajasthani stlye tribal dance were a women was thrusting her hips to the beats of the drum whilst balancing six pots on her head ! We were all jaw-dropped !

The dizzy-making ferris wheel and huge cotton candy are also to be mentioned. It was also very interesting to listen to the various predictions made by an astrologer as to how our future would be and to watch the eye-catching puppet show.

However, dinner time when we all sat together on the floor, chitchatting and trying hard to complete the elaborate yet delectable feast is one thing I would never forget!

After dinner, we were all too full and lazy to take part in further activities and engaged ourselves by taking pictures in the very unique and attractively designed ambience.

What a day it was indeed !
